Parent Involvement

It is the goal of Richland Elementary to develop strong partnerships with the home. Having our parents and school working together as partners will increase student achievement and develop positive attitudes about self and school. Richland Elementary values the contributions and commitments our parents have made to develop successful home-school partnerships.

Parent involvement opportunities include:

FOR Club

Friends of Richland (FOR) Club is Richland Elementary's PTO organization.

ELAC

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a parent group that advises school administration and site council on programs and services involving English Learners. Both committees meet monthly. Please see the calendar for next month's meetings.

School Site Council (SSC)

The SSC is responsible for reviewing and approving the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and the Comprehensive School Safety Plan.  SSC develops and approves the plans and related expenditures in accordance with state and federal laws.  SSC recommends and submits the plans to the Governing Board for approval and reviews implementation of the plans during the school year.  The SSC evaluates progress made toward school goals to increase the academic achievement of all students.

School Events

Richland hosts several parent and family events throughout the school year. The year begins with our Meet and Greet/Family Back to School Night for K-5th grade, where families meet their children's teachers and learn about the school year. TK will have their Meet and Greet on the first day of school. Other events during the school year include Principal's Coffee Chats, Halloween Carnival and Haunted House, Mustang Reading Night, Mustang Math Night, Winter Chorus Program, Spring Musical, and Open House.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are an important form of the school's communication with parents. Teachers and parents discuss students' progress at parent-teacher conferences. Specific suggestions may be made with regard to class and school programs.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled in October. A conference schedule will be sent to you in advance. If students from the same household attend the same school, the teachers will make every attempt to schedule these conferences back to back.

Classroom Volunteers

Parents are encouraged to participate in our school by volunteering time to work in the classrooms. Your assistance can also be used if you wish to take home projects. Contact your child's teacher and be a part of our working school family. In order to be in compliance with the law, volunteers to the San Marcos Unified School District are required to fill out the Volunteer Acknowledgement form. Thank you for serving as a volunteer in our district. You are making a difference in the lives of children by giving of your time and talents.

Richland Round Up on the last Friday of Each Month

On the last Friday each month, an all-school flag ceremony is held on the playground at the start of school. The student body assembles together to hear special announcements, receive recognition, and salute the flag. Often special presentations are made at this time. All parents are invited to attend the Richland Round Up.
